Privacy Policy

Grapevine is a wine scanner and tracker app. We built it to be useful without being invasive. This policy explains what data we collect, where it lives, and what we do with it.

1. No Account Required

Grapevine does not require you to create an account. We do not ask for your email address, password, or any personal identifier. Your name (if provided during onboarding) is stored locally on your device only.

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored exclusively on your device using standard iOS local storage (AsyncStorage) and is never uploaded to our servers:

• Your name and onboarding preferences (wine types, taste profile, regions, occasions)
• Your Taste DNA archetype and traits
• Saved wines, wishlist, and wine ratings (stars, notes, tasting tags)
• App settings and subscription status

If you delete the app, all locally stored data is removed from your device.

3. Camera and Wine Scanning

Grapevine requests camera access to scan wine labels. When you scan a label:

• A JPEG image of the label is sent to our backend (a Supabase Edge Function) for analysis.
• The image is analyzed by Google Gemini via Vercel AI Gateway to extract wine name, producer, region, and vintage.
• The extracted text fields may be stored in our scans database table for service improvement. The original image is not stored.
• Scan records are not linked to any user identity — no user ID, name, or email is attached.

4. Wine Search

When you use the search feature, your search query is sent to our Supabase database to find matching wines. These queries are not stored and are not linked to any personal identifier.

5. Third-Party Services

Grapevine relies on the following third-party services:

• Apple App Store — App distribution and (future) in-app purchases.
• Supabase — Backend database for wine search and scan logging. Data is stored in the EU.
• Google Gemini via Vercel AI Gateway — AI processing of wine label images. Images are passed through for analysis and not retained by Google beyond their standard processing terms.

6. No Advertising

Grapevine does not show third-party advertisements and does not sell your personal information to anyone, ever.

7. No Analytics SDKs

Grapevine does not currently include third-party analytics SDKs (no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no similar tools). If analytics are added in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated.

8. Children's Privacy

Grapevine is a wine-related app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Data Security

Most of your data never leaves your device. Scan requests are transmitted over HTTPS. No app or service can guarantee absolute security, but we keep the data footprint minimal by design.

10. Your Rights

Because most data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by using "Reset & start over" in the app settings, or by deleting the app. For any data processed by our backend (anonymous scan logs), contact us and we will delete any records we can identify.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent version.
